Ripoll
Located at the confluence of the Ter and Freser rivers, the town was built around the Benedictine monastery of Santa María de Ripoll, founded around the 9th century.
DESCRIPTION
On this first stage, you will depart from Ripoll to head to Olot, the Volcanic capital of the Iberian Peninsula, while exploring a bit of the Pyrenean valleys.
You will follow the paved path known as The Iron and Coal Route. It used to be a railway that the train used to carry these materials from the mines to Barcelona, but this section has now been transformed into an ideal trail for enjoying a bicycle ride, and to commemorate the industrial past that is an important part of the region’s heritage.

Olot
Olot is a delightful town that mixes medieval with modern. It has wide, open and spacious walkways, and is surrounded by four of the finest dormant volcanoes in the Garrotxa Nature Reserve.

DESCRIPTION
This OPTIONAL STAGE takes place in one of the most iconic routes in Catalonia, the route of the Volcanic Natural Park of La Garrotxa. Marvel at the vegetation which grows thanks to the minerals of the volcanic soil and which has created nearby a very famous forest known as La Fageda d’en Jorda.
Another highlight is the unique town of Santa Pau, a medieval village very different from the ones you will observe in the Costa Brava due to the layout of the town.

DESCRIPTION
This stage follows the tracks of the Girona-Olot railway, which was the main transport artery for the rural districts of La Garrotxa, La Selva, and El Gironés. A modest narrow gauge railway (known as “carrilet”) just 54 Km long, that ran along the banks of the rivers Ter, Bruguent, and Fluvià in the shadow of the menacing La Garrotxa volcanoes.
This route is all about the landscape and having a last time to chill before entering the more bustling pace of Girona and the Costa Brava.

DESCRIPTION
In the morning you will leave Girona by bike heading to the coast to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, with its lovely old town, marina, and beach. Further along the trail you can’t miss S’Agaró, considered one of the most beautiful towns to cycle in the Costa Brava.
Finally, you will reach Platja d’Aro, where you can find from Roman ruins, to hidden coves dotting the coastline.

DESCRIPTION
Today you will visit the fishing village of Palamós and two of its most famous and beautiful coves, La Fosca beach and El Castell beach. You will continue through Cap Roig’s Natural Park to Calella de Palafrugell main streets and its amazing promenade.
Continuing onto Llafranc direction to Pals, you shouldn’t miss a visit to the picturesque Sant Sebastià lighthouse with panoramic views of the sea. Finally, you’ll reach the beautiful medieval town of Pals.

DESCRIPTION
This OPTIONAL STAGE is a circular route to get to know more of the Costa Brava. You will ride through the rice fields of Pals to the Marshlands of Baix Ter, a great opportunity to observe landscapes of natural beauty, as well as an array of birds that inhabit these lands.
You will also visit the Estartit, a family orientated beach town from where you have wonderful views of the Illes Medes, one of the most important marine parks in Europe.

DESCRIPTION
Departing from Pals you will head to various medieval towns. First, Palau-Sator, with its famous clock tower. After, Peratallada, with his imposing town walls and moat. Finally, the medieval and old Iberian settlement of Ullastret.
After the medieval towns you will go North in search of the river Ter, which you will mostly follow during today’s route in order to reach Girona.
